MediaWiki talk:Licenses
From Joomla! Documentation
customized for docs.joomla.org
For the templates used in this list containing the license' grant text see Category:License templates. List agreed by Elin (talk • contribs)
This is a list of suitable licenses (rearranged, --CirTap (talk • contribs) 12:26, 7 May 2008 (EDT))
- {{JEDL}}|Joomla! Electronic Documentation Licence (recommended)
- {{Unknown}}|I don't know exactly
- Other free licenses:
- Creative Commons (exception):
- {{CC-by-sa-2.5}}|Attribution ShareAlike 2.5
- Non-free license (exception):
- {{CopyrightByOSM}}|Open Source Matters
- {{CopyrightByWikimedia}}|Wikimedia + Wikicommons images
The wiki already features content that does NOT comply to the JEDL
- Articles and probably most media files copied from joomla.org are {{CC-by-sa-2.5}}
- The various Joomla! Logos, which I believe are not JEDL compliant either ({{CopyrightByOSM}}?)
- People's fotos are unlikely compliant to JEDL (ie. GHOP students)
- consider adding {{PD}}, probably provides not harm, and {{GFDL}}.
- "tiny" licence templates can be made available to display a licence icon only instead of the big boxes

Content on the j.org sites is all copyright OSM so it is fine to use here as are the logos. We can ask James about issuing a second license with JEDL but I don't see that as a problem at all.
Photos should be considered fair use I think, or when someone submits a photo they have the copyright for they can give fair use permission. Elin
GFDL would be a problem potentially because it conflicts with JEDL, since JEDL is less free. We wrote the JEDL because the GFDL and CC did not meet our needs.
I would question whether we should allow any CC materials into the wiki. First, we are making a combined work and that is very tricky. Because the work as a whole is NOT going to be CC, it is JEDL and that precisely allows some things that CC-NC and CC-A do not allow.
I would urge strict compliance on this because we want to be able to reuse these materials as we wish without having to worry. Any other way and we will need a paragraph by paragraph data base with licensing.
