"'Lightweight Directory Access Protocol"' (""'LDAP""') è un protocollo progettato per accedere a sistemi di directory su TCP/IP. A causa di questo i vari database forniscono un'interfaccia LDAP come wp:Active Directory Microsoft Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, così come soluzioni più dedicate a LDAP come OpenLDAP.

Joomla! has had a native LDAP library, JClientLDAP in , and a native LDAP authentication plugin. This allows Joomla! to authenticate against LDAP systems out of the box: to configure, go to the Plugin Manager and enable and edit the Authentication - LDAP plugin.
