From Joomla! Documentation

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I last logged into an actual joomla.org wiki. I've been writing my own non-complex extensions at a leisurely pace since about 2006. I started with some modules and eventually discovered how easy the Community Builder API is and wrote a few plugins for that.

I've wanted to contribute to Joomla! Documentation for several years, but I never thought I knew enough to do so. Most of the documentation pages require deeper knowledge than I possess, so I just never got started. But yesterday I was trying to follow the solitary page on how to create a Package and there was something missing that was keeping my new package from uninstalling its elements. After a brief forum conversation, I discovered the reason, which was a detail not documented on that page. So I signed up and added a subsection myself. Now I feel like part of the "club".

I was peripherally involved with the Joomla! developer team back in those early days, but I did not have the time then to get fully engaged. So in 2009, along with Dorothy Firsching, I started the Northern Virginia Joomla! Users Group, which still meets monthly. Dorothy, who actually builds Joomla! sites for a living, keeps things running smoothly and keeps her finger on the community's pulse. We actually hosted the first JoomlaDay DC in 2010 at a Microsoft facility in Chevy Chase, MD. It was a HUGE success, but our membership waned shortly thereafter (the "too busy" syndrome) and we have not held another.

In In the not-too-distant future, I will retire from my full-time profession (an embedded software engineer in the aerospace industry) and just do Joomla! stuff with my spare time. Hoping to eventually meet many of you. Until then...

Bruce
